It was first announced during the 2006 Electronic tainment Expo, the WoW cataclysm Gold film is being made through Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. It has been the subject of much speculation, the film was, in a bizarre way, connected to Saving Private Ryan director Steven Spielberg. There is no casting information or release date was announced.
Activision Blizzard profits hit $1.1 billion in 2012
Activision Blizzard today reported full-year and fourth-quarter 2012 numbers and revealed that the company's profit for the year jumped to new record $1.1 billion. The year's net revenue reached $4.86 billion, which is an all-time record for the game developer. For the fourth quarter that ended on December 31st Activision Blizzard posted revenue of $1.77 billion and a profit of 354 million.
The digital division of the company contributed heavily for its profits in 2012 as revenue exceeding all-time high of $1.6 billion. This is 32 percent of revenues.
Blizzard entertainment also announced today the WoW Cataclysm Classic subscriptions have decreased from 10 million at the end of September, to 9.6 million by December 31. Even with the decline it remains the most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online online role-playing game, according to the company.
Additionally, Activision announced that the Skylanders franchise has now earned over $1 billion in retail since its launch in the year 2011. This is significantly higher that the 500 million total revenue that the company reported earlier in the month, but the figure was based on sales from the United States.
Blizzard Entertainment also updated its numbers for sales of Cataclysm Classic Gold for sale which revealed that the dungeon-crawler had sold in (i.e. delivered) more than 12 million units at the end of December which is up from 10 million sold the previous year.
