Unlike standard spinal fusion surgery that permanently joins two or more vertebrae, tethering is the installation of a flexible cord on the convex side of the spine that gently precludes further growth on that side, so that the curve is straightened over time. Scoliosis Tethering Surgery represents an innovative, minimally invasive treatment approach to correct spinal curvature while preserving mobility. This new technique is especially important for children and adolescents who are still growing, as it uses the natural growth of the child to slowly correct a deformity without limiting spinal flexibility.
