Mozilla Urges Firefox Users to Update Before Root Certificate Expiry
Mozilla is urging all Firefox users to update their browsers immediately to avoid security risks and potential disruptions caused by the impending expiration of a critical root certificate.
The certificate, used to sign Firefox add-ons and other Mozilla content, is set to expire on Friday, March 14, 2025. Users running Firefox versions older than 128 (or ESR 115 for Extended Support Release users) will face issues with add-ons and security features if they do not update.
What Happens If You Don’t Update?
A Mozilla blog post warns that users on outdated versions will no longer be able to use add-ons after the certificate expires. Additionally, a Mozilla support document highlights several risks:
• Malicious add-ons could bypass security measures, putting user data and privacy at risk.
• Untrusted certificates may allow users to access fraudulent websites without warnings.
• Compromised password alerts may stop working, leaving users unaware of data breaches.
Who Is Affected?
The issue impacts Firefox on all platforms, including Windows, Android, Linux, and macOS. However, iOS users are not affected, as Apple manages its own certificate system separately.
How to Update Firefox
To check your Firefox version and update:
1. Click Menu (☰) > Help > About Firefox.
2. If an update is available, it will install automatically.
Mozilla strongly advises users to update immediately to ensure browser security and stability.
Users of Firefox-Based Browsers Should Also Update
Those using Firefox-based browsers such as Tor, LibreWolf, and Waterfox should also verify that they are running a version based on Firefox 128 or later.
For users who encounter issues updating, Mozilla has set up a support thread to provide assistance.Mozilla Urges Firefox Users to Update Before Root Certificate Expiry Mozilla is urging all Firefox users to update their browsers immediately to avoid security risks and potential disruptions caused by the impending expiration of a critical root certificate. X Hit by Massive DDoS Attack Allegedly Launched by DarkStorm
Social media platform X is currently experiencing a large-scale cyberattack, allegedly orchestrated by the hacking group DarkStorm.
DarkStorm has claimed responsibility for the ongoing Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which has forced X to activate its Cloudflare protection to mitigate the impact.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, confirmed the attack in a post on the platform, stating:
“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X.”

Earlier today, DarkStorm posted on their Telegram channel, sharing screenshots and links as proof of their attack against Twitter/X. They provided a link to https://lnkd.in/eWcPWmbV as evidence of the ongoing DDoS activity.
The attack’s full impact remains unclear, and X has yet to release an official statement regarding potential disruptions.X Hit by Massive DDoS Attack Allegedly Launched by DarkStorm Social media platform X is currently experiencing a large-scale cyberattack, allegedly orchestrated by the hacking group DarkStorm. Yesterday, I was lucky to attend the Africa Youth Tech Empowerment Conference hosted by #Sikhona It was an amazing experience where I got to meet and learn from great people in the tech industry.
Dr. Michael Thompson (President of Sikhona) shared an important message about how outsiders control most of our technology, and why we should focus on becoming producer instead of just consumers. Dr. Victor also gave us a thought-provoking technical question related to the Abuja Marathon. MrGrantMoney, Dr. Rodney Walker had exciting news for us, including a $100K funding pledge to support 10 startup businesses.
One of the best moments for me was getting the chance to ask Dr. Michael Thompson directly about the free courses Sikhona will be offering, including cybersecurity and many others. He answered my question clearly and gave a very detailed response.
Overall, it was an inspiring and eye-opening event. I’m grateful for the knowledge I gained and the amazing people I got to meet.Yesterday, I was lucky to attend the Africa Youth Tech Empowerment Conference hosted by #Sikhona It was an amazing experience where I got to meet and learn from great people in the tech industry.
