This week is full of Black history, culture and identity! Here’s what’s happening at African Ancestry:
📚 Wednesday, March 5th – Women’s History Month Kickoff (7 PM EST)
Join us for a special livestream conversation with author, curator, entrepreneur and AA Fam Shantrelle P. Lewis. We'll dive into her book Dandy Lion: The Black Dandy and Street Style and discuss how her work provided the foundation for the latest Met Museum exhibit. You'll see why Sankofa is so important, even in today's art world!
🌾 Thursday, March 6th – North Carolina Rice Festival Ancestry Reveals (6 PM EST)
We’re heading to Navassa, NC, to reveal the ancestries of ten community members who took an African Ancestry MatriClan Test. We are honored to participate for the fourth year in the North Carolina Rice Festival. It is a celebration of Brunswick County’s history as the top rice-producing region in NC and as part of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.
🎉 Saturday, March 8th – Philly Meetup! (2 - 6 PM EST)
We’re teaming up with our friends at Unitees for our first meetup of the year! Join us at The Movement (7133 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia) to celebrate Black culture. African Ancestry Test Kits will be available, and purchasers will be entered to win a live, virtual ancestry reveal! RSVP now: https://bit.ly/aaunitees. Not in the Philly area? Please share the email with a friend who is!
