Our daily Editor's picks, featuring the best of our reporting and analysis
    Dear Reader,

What remains of the FDLR in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo?

The fate of the armed group founded by former leaders of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda is at the centre of fraught negotiations between Kinshasa and Kigali.

While the DRC has committed to ‘neutralising’ the FDLR, it accuses Rwanda of using the group as a ‘pretext‘ to justify its support for M23 rebels.

“Some people, who don’t know what they’re talking about, say the FDLR is just a handful and that we’re exaggerating,” Kagame told us back in March. “But even if they’re few, why do they still exist after all these years?”

Romain Gras delivers this deep dive into the situation on the ground.

  • I know... The photo looks too perfect which seems to make it fake and maybe so. But the following is indeed fact...

The Jieng (or Dinka) people are often cited as the tallest ethnic group in South Sudan, with many men ***averaging*** around 6 feet (183 cm) or taller. Their height is believed to be influenced by genetics, nutrition, and lifestyle, particularly their pastoral traditions. The Jieng are known for their strong cultural identity and historical significance in the region.

However, the tallest tribe in Africa is often considered to be the Tutsi people, primarily found in Rwanda and Burundi. Tutsi men typically average around 6 feet (183 cm) in height, while Tutsi women also tend to be taller than average. Their height is attributed to a combination of genetics and nutrition, particularly in the context of their pastoral lifestyle.
    ----------

You can tell from the photo below this Dinka couple is much taller than 6 feet. My guess is over 7ft if not 8ft. Keep in mind, there were talks of living giants in the bible which points to Afkians once again.

  • This is who is fighting in the DRC: The March 23 Movement (U.S backed French: Mouvement du 23 mars), often abbreviated as M23 and also known as the Congolese Revolutionary Army (Armée révolutionnaire du Congo), is a Congolese rebel military group that is for the most part formed of ethnic Tutsi.
